My mind was racing as I read this chapter. So many ideas filled my brain. As I read, I kept thinking, "Man, that's smart!", "I wish I had done that!", or "That's a great idea!".
At the beginning of the school year, I talked about reading and how I love to read. I discussed with my students how it was my goal to guide them to be a successful indepenent reader, but I didn't share with my readers about my reading life. I so wish I had at the very beginning.
I decided it's never to late to share. My students LOVE to hear about my personal life. They love to hear what I did over the weekends, what I ate for dinner, about my family, and anything exciting I can share. They are a bit nosey! Ha :) After reading Chapter 3, I have decided to develop a plan to share about my personal reading plan.
I am going to come in Monday so excited. I am going to call my readers for a "family meeting". We are going to dig into my bookbag and examine my personal books from home that I have read or plan to read. I will share about these books. I will discuss why I like them, the author, the ideas I get from them, the different genres, and so much more! I can imagine now that my students will ask a ton of questions about my book. I plan to take a picture of my book shelves at home to share with my students. My students know I am obsessed with my book shelves in the classroom and how it is organized. I will be able to share my personal ones too!
Through these great ideas from Chapter 3, I can not wait to come in Monday and share about my life and see what my students have to say. My hope is my passion, enthusiasm, and modeling of my personal reading life will spread throughout my classroom and my students will share the same love of reading as I do! So thankful for all these ideas!
Lyndsey, I am so thankful that you are changing the reading lives of Bobo students!
ReplyDeleteThey can't help but catch your enthusiasm and passion! I can certainly feel it as I read your post. You make me want to be in your classroom Monday!
Hi Lyndsey,
ReplyDeleteI love how you are going to introduce some of your favorite books to your class through your family meeting structure. I know your students will enjoy learning new information about you through this but most of all how it will encourage them to want to read and share their books too. I am glad that you found this chapter as helpful as I did!
